TrustedInstaller.exe process uses 100% CPU
When you startup Windows Media Player, you notice the computer gets really slow to respond. If you check the Task Manager, you notice a process called TrustedInstaller.exe hogging 100% of the resources.
The cause of this is the automatic update feature in WMP, but turning it off isn't as straight forward as you might think. You'll have to dive into the Registry to do this. Always back up the Registry before making any changes!
1. Start the Register-editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
3. Click on Edit, New, Key.
4. Type WindowsMediaPlayer and press ENTER.
5. Select the value WindowsMediaPlayer, click Edit, New, DWORD.
6. Type DisableAutoUpdate and press ENTER.
7. Right click on the value DisableAutoUpade and click Modify.
8. Type 1 in the Value Data field and click OK.
9. Close the Registry Editor.
