Windows Calendar has stopped working

After you created an appointment and a new task in Windows Calendar on a Windows Vista-based computer. However, when you restart the computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Windows Calendar has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Additionally, an error message that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event ID: 1000
Description:

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
